ConsorzioIntra and Pallanza are the two main centres of the town of Verbania on the Piedmont shore of Lake Maggiore. They are famed for their nineteenth century villas, their churches and many neoclassical and Baroque buildings and the luxuriant gardens of the 19th century villas overlooking the lake, such as Villa Rusconi-Clerici.
The historic centre of Intra has a timeless charm, with its wrought iron railings, its stuccoes, stone balconies and quaint old streets. A stroll to the old harbour and around the town’s little squares, stylish cafés and wealth of shops makes Intra a pleasant place to spend a day – and there are often art exhibitions or other cultural events to add extra interest.
Pallanza also offers a number of attractions, including the renowned Museo del Paesaggio (Landscape Museum), located in Palazzo Viani-Dugnani and Palazzo Biumi-Innocenti.
The lakefront promenade, with its coloured buildings, arcades and flower-laden balconies, has one of the loveliest views of the lake. The Botanic Garden of Villa Taranto between Pallanza and Intra is world famous for the variety and beauty of the flowers and trees it contains.
