Rocca d'Angera - A Perfectly Preserved Medieval Castle
The Rocca Borromea di Angera is the castle that typifiesLake Maggiore. This formidable fortress is located on the South of the lake, on the calcareous hill in the town of Angera, on the Lombard shore. The fortress is the property of the Borromeo Family and dates back to the 14th century. Together with the Rocca di Arona, it was the main point of control for traffic on the South of the Lake.
Its dominant position also ensured a view of the Alps and guaranteed its control over any invasions by enemies from the other side. You can also visit the inside of the Rocca and it is famous for its “Sala di Giustizia”, one of the oldest and most important examples of Medieval art in the West.
